How to Pick the Perfect Outfits for Family Pictures

Figuring out what to wear for family pictures is on everyone’s mind right now. Picking out the perfect family outfits for pictures can be a bit tricky, so I have made a list to help! We had our family pictures taken this year while in Arizona by the amazing Jasmine Amber Photography. I spent a good chunk of the fall months in Arizona photographing my own amazing clients and decided I wanted my own desert landscape pictures. I have linked the outfits below.

It’s All About The Color Scheme

Every year, the number one question I get asked from my photo clients is “What should we wear?”. I always tell them to pick a color scheme and go from there. There really is no secret formula to picking the perfect outfits for family pictures. As long as the colors look nice together, you are golden!

Start With Just One Outfit

This year, I bought Alexa’s dress first. I loved the camel color and the black polka dots. Then, I looked around online A LOT! It took me another two months to figure out everyone’s looks for our pictures this year. I would order a shirt or jeans for another kid and when everything came, I would always lay everything out on my bed to see if it all pulled together nicely.

You Don’t Have To Match

Everyone does not need to be in the same exact shade of red or the same patterns either. I decided to go with a very neutral color scheme this year. Once I had Alexas dress, I looked around for other camel/tan/browns that would compliment her dress, without matching exactly.

Wear Layers

It’s much easier to wear layers in the fall and winter months, but even in the summer, you can layer to add a little pop to your photos. I love the look of layers in photos. T-shirts under button downs, vests, etc. It brings dimension to your photos.

Make Sure Everyone is Comfortable

Guys, this is a big one. If you or your children are not comfortable in their clothes, it will show in the pictures. I promise.
